Only on Team and above, and only if you ask it to — it joins visibly, by name, in the participant list, like anyone else. For a call you're already in, the browser extension records the tab directly and nothing joins at all. For an in-person meeting, a room microphone does the listening. Three different jobs, and you choose which one fits.

No — never. A voiceprint is biometric data, and enrolment is opt-in for exactly that reason. Every match renormalises when nobody in the room has enrolled, so a Room with zero voiceprints still transcribes, still gets minutes, and asks nothing of anyone who'd rather not.

Audio uploads in slices while the meeting is still running, not only at the end, so a dead battery or a closed laptop loses seconds rather than the meeting. Anything left stranded — a tab closed before it could finish — is found and assembled by an hourly recovery job.

Whoever belongs to that Room — and someone who doesn't gets told the Room doesn't exist, not that they lack permission to see it. Confirming existence to somebody with no access is itself a disclosure, so it's refused the same way either way. Board Rooms add a further confidential scope on top, so a directors-only item never reaches a general read.
